How do I install MS FTP on my Windows VPS or Dedicated Server?

Q) I have a Windows Server (Virtual/Dedicated) running MS Windows 2008 R2, how do I install FTP?

A) Go to start > run and type: CMD and click OK

Paste this command: CMD /C START /w PKGMGR.EXE /l:log.etw /iu:IIS-WebServerRole;IIS-FTPServer;IIS-FTPSvc

press the enter key, reboot when requested. this will install MS FTP. Remember to configure PASSIVE ports (usually port 50000 to 60000) is MS FTP then open them in windows firewall too.

your VPS may auto reboot itself up to 3 times during the install as some 3rd party components may also be required.

Once rebooted Open IIS, right click site and go to FTP site. call your site Default FTP and point it to C:inetpubftproot
on the next screen set SSL to NO SSL. click next, leave all values as default and click finish.
